Job Summary This position is a Criminal Investigator (Healthcare) in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU). The MFCU is responsible for investigating and prosecuting cases involving healthcare fraud by District Medicaid providers and abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of individuals residing in Medicaid‑funded facilities. Major Duties Consult with senior investigators and supervisors to initiate investigations, develop investigative milestones, formulate investigative plans, and create violation matrices. Secure facts and develop evidence from all sources to establish the extent and nature of violations; properly seize and safeguard evidence to preserve chain of custody. Receive and analyze complaints or allegations under applicable laws, regulations, and policies; conduct interviews; ensure interviewees receive requisite warnings; create accurate records of events. Draft investigation reports for administrative cases, providing management with corrective action recommendations. Assist the U.S. Department of Justice and District U.S. Attorney's Office in preparing cases for prosecution; assist the D.C. Office of the Attorney General in civil litigation preparation and testify as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Professional Details Tour of Duty: May require extended hours. The position does not provide federal law‑enforcement retirement or LEAP benefits. Medical and Physical Requirements Applicants must pass a pre‑employment and annual physical examination; possess moderate physical exertion ability, including walking, standing, running, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Adequate vision (with or without correction) is required for reading printed material; hearing loss must not exceed 35 dB at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz. Applicants must demonstrate emotional and mental stability and be free of disqualifying physical conditions. A valid U.S. driver’s license is required. Physical Demands: The work may involve long periods of standing, stooping, bending, and frequent surveillance requiring considerable walking and climbing. Incumbents may need to lift moderately heavy objects and respond to physical attacks using firearms or non‑lethal force as required. Work Environment The position is performed in a fast‑paced office environment with constantly changing priorities; it may require travel to high‑crime areas outside, exposure to extreme weather, and carrying a firearm. Special Requirements All candidates will undergo enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of D.C. Personnel Regulations (Suitability – Safety Sensitive). Preferred qualifications include graduation from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Criminal Investigator Training Program or comparable federal, state, or military law‑enforcement training.
